JAKE Talks seeks authentic narratives for its Voices section. Whether they are in the form of essay, creative non-fiction, illustrations, photography, video, we look for work that speaks to every day, queer lives in empowering and thoughtful ways. Are you such a voice?

We don't have specific topics that we look for, so bring us your most stunning, insightful, satirical, etc work. Original work is preferred but we will consider previously published pieces as long as you retrain the copyright. We read every piece submitted so please follow up if you don't hear a response within 2 weeks time. To make things run smoothly, please make sure to abide by the following when submitting:

Attach your submission as a WORD doc. Name your file using the title of your piece and your name. Include in the submission your contact information, mailing address, website URL, social media info (Twitter username, etc.), a short bio, and genre of the piece. Feel free to include/recommend visuals for your piece, though please avoid any copywritten that you do not know whom to credit.

If your piece is accepted for publication, the JAKE Talks - Voices editor will work closely to revise and edit your piece to its final state. Previously published work will be copyedited and re-formatted as necessary.

We do not accept single pieces of photography, instead a photo series or photo-essay, works best. Submit low resolution jpegs with an artistic statement for the work. Likewise with illustrations, unless it is a political/editorial cartoon or a 1-page comic.

After an original piece is published, you may post your piece to your own site, as long as its attributed to JAKE Talks' Voices. If you wish to re-publish your work in other publications, please notify us prior to the content being reproduced.

We currently do not take mailed submissions, only e-mail. Make sure to add the below information in the following format in subject field of your email:

“NameofPiece – Genre – Submitter'sName”

to JakeTalksMedia@gmail.com

In partnership with the daniel extra, select pieces may be re-published at danielextra.net with appropriate attributions to reach East Coast audiences.
